Dandenong South

Dandenong South is a mixed residential and industrial suburb 34 km south-east of central Melbourne. Its boundaries were substantially altered before the 2011 Census with the northern boundary running along Cheltenham Road, the railway line and the Princes Highway, from there down the South Gippsland Freeway to Abbotts Road and Bangholme Road in the South and alongside the Eastlink Toll road. Prior to this it was a vast industrial suburb, with nearly 5000 people including those in Lyndhurst.

Dandenong South includes the International Harvester-H.J. Heinz-General Motors factories.

Most of Dandenong South is flat, with the Eumemmerring waterway crossing it. The landscape is ideal for large industrial buildings. Among the larger industries are the Hampton Park Distribution Centre, Gas Net (formerly Gas and Fuel Corporation), Nissan Motor Company and Visy Board. The Dandenong Sewerage Authority's treatment plant adjacent to the Dandenong Creek (ceased 1996) is being rehabilitated for industrial development (180 ha). Immediately south of the former General Motors railway station there is the Australia Post mail processing centre for Victoria, opened in 1999.

There are bulky-good retail outlets along the Frankston-Dandenong Road, and on the South Gippsland Highway there is the Lunar drive-in theatre (former Panoramic drive-in, 1956-84, reopened 2002). Dandenong South included the former Lyndhurst railway station on the Cranbourne railway line. Nearby there is a land bank for a freight centre.

At the 2011 census, 28.1% of residents recorded an affiliation with the Islamic faith (Australia, 2.2%). Dandenong South's census populations have been:
